Israel Shahar, son of Ephraim, was born in Zichron Ya’akov in 1931. In 1946 he joined the Lehi underground and served in various positions under Zalman Samsonov “David”. In March 1948, he participated in a commando course under the command of Yehuda Gafni “Eliezer”. He enlisted in the IDF together with most Lehi members on May 29^th ,1948 and joined the 8^th Brigade. He participated in the War of Independence in Wadi Aviad as a driver of a half-track vehicle and was injured in his left hand. Israel died on 28^th of February, 1993 and was laid to rest in the cemetery in Zichron Ya’akov.
