Ze’ev Shamai, son of Lulu and Zion was born in Iraq on December 15th, 1924 and made aliya in October 1942. In March 1943, while he was still serving in the British Army, he joined the Lehi underground in the Foreign Division under the command of Aryeh Shalom “Binyamin”. In 1946 he moved to the Operations Division under Ya’akov Rota “Little Danny”. He also operated in the Arab 6th Division. He was arrested in January 1947 as a suspected resistance affiliate and was held in administrative detention in Latrun until late 1947.
After the declaration of independence, he joined the IDF with most of the Lehi members in the 8th Brigade. He served for many years as a permanent army officer and in one of his positions served as the army’s representative for Bedouin affairs. He received the Lehi badge and the State Warriors badge.
Ze’ev died on January 22nd, 2013 and was laid to rest in the Kiryat Shaul Cemetery in Tel Aviv.
