Dov, whose nom-de-guerre was “Uzi the Redhead”, was among the finest, most courageous of underground fighters. He was born on February 15,1927 in Tel-Aviv to Ya’acov and Rachel. After elementary school, the talented boy worked with his father in plumbing/metal-working. A working-man’s son, he was instructed at the Hashomer-Hatza’ir Central Branch Tel-Aviv. However, the passive revolutionary zeal predominant there during the  Holocaust and the British ‘White Book’ in Israel, led him aged 17 to join Lehi’s rows, having been influenced by Lehi members  he worked polishing diamonds with, and by underground literature, whose distribution his Leftist instructors tried  preventing, which created a clash at their Tel-Aviv Branch. He wasn’t the only one who joined Lehi 1944 from Hashomer-Hatsa’ir, but he was radical in his loyalty to the principles of liberty. His skills soon stood out in the Fighting Division and he participated in numerous attacks against British forces, including at the Haifa Train Workshops 18 Sivan 5708; he was among the few  returning from the operation  unharmed. The death of his friends left scars within him until his last day, when he  was killed in a battle with Arabs. Uzi the Redhead had a reputation of being a courageous bold fellow, coolly operating with calm calculation. Some time after the Workshops Operation, he was arrested and imprisoned in Latrun, but managed to escape and resume Lehi activities. Among the last operations he conducted was detonating the military train near Rechovot, retribution for the deadly explosion in  Jerusalem’s Ben–Yehuda St. targeting civilians, that British forces engineered. After Lehi joined the IDF, Dov was among the central pillars of 8^th Brigade’s Commando Battalion 89, Tall-Blond-Dov’s Lieutenant . Following the sinking of “Altalena”, he could no longer bear the existing situation, and moved to Jerusalem to fight in the Lehi Brigade, so  the capitol would become an inseparable part of the State of Israel. Dov was killed on July 10,1948, in the attack on the “Tin Shack” outpost at Beit-Mazmil (Kiryat-Yovel). He was laid to rest aged 21, at  Mt Herzl Military Cemetery Jerusalem, close to where he fell.
